"Reading is the Key to every Success"

Students at Shadydale participate in a reading program called Accelerated Readers (AR). All students are encouraged to read books daily. Once they read the book and understand it, they can take the test on the computer. They need 80% to pass the quiz. The program is designed to help the student improve two very important elements of Reading: Fluency and Comprehension.
Mrs. Sunita Dawar, Reading Coach at Shadydale Elementary believes in going the extra mile to involve and meet the needs of every student in the program. In the first week of every month she prints a report of every class and announces the winner of that month. On the basis of their points, they earn different incentives like: stickers, book marks, popcorn, certificates and lunch with Principal or Assistant Principal. This program is strongly supported by the teachers who encourage as well as motivate the students. The Library department greatly supports (AR) program. The library is open for students as early as 7:00 a.m.
This program has been a great success. Shadydale’s looking forward to having the same support and cooperation from parents this year too.

Brianna Brock-Hohrn is a third grader here at Shadydale. She is currently holding the title proudly as The Top Reader. She enjoys reading.

3rd Place- Ms. Kirby with 664 Points

4th Place- Ms. Ervin with 589 Points
